Inane babblings from one trying to reform life and doctrine by God's Word.
Nicky, I think Parky is way off the mark here. It is possible that the death of Jade Goody was the death of a saint.
After all she was baptised. The media coverage smothered the gospel influences in her final days, and minimised the Christian aspects of her funeral.
I agree with parky and David. On the one hand her life and death does reveal all that is puerile about human celebrity culture. And she has been 'canonized' by the media and the public as a secular saint - conveniently forgetting they were only recently baying for her blood. In that sense the crowd is as fickle as it was in the C1.On the other hand the public and the media have quietly ignored her baptism and that of her children which was accompanied by a sound evangelical statement of belief (see Corinne Brixton's comments). It would be wonderful if this poor girl found Jesus as Lord at the end of life. If so, in a strange way, she died as Jesus did, misunderstood in her final moments and her christian claims sidelined by the public.
John, superbly written comment. I like the comparison of Goody's death to Christ's.
The media only reports what interests them and most of the coverage was sentimental and puerile... and worse some of it was nasty and vindictive. But when you cut through all the media hype ...there is something really amazing about this woman sharing her death as well as her life via the media, particularly as part of her preparation for dying was Baptism... for her and for her sons. She faced up to the inevitable and she put her house in order... materially and spiritually. In our culture we are completely divorced from the inevitability of death and dying... so much so that it is unnatural to us... we don't want to think about it or confront it at any age. And when people are dying we want them to do it quietly without fuss behind closed doors. Dying is something that happens to other people... but Jade has revealed something of our mortality and our secular society's enduring need for a spiritual framework which makes sense of the senseless.
i think this article is the worst article i have ever read michael parkinson is a idiot. i think jade is more important and she has got two lovely boys who havent got a mum no more and i feel soo sorry for them. Michael Parkinson is 74 years old soo he has probly got a bit loopy because of his age. Jade is soo nice she hasnt done anythink wrong except call shilpa shetty.. shilpa poppadom which quite a lot of people found funny. maybe she is a bit dum. but thats not her fault thats how she was brought up as a child.i think jade goody is more important than princess dianna because i never met her and she isnt that popular.
